Thoughtful Thursday: The Art Of Routine 

Many people I know (including the old me) are turned off by being “active” or “productive with their lives. 

Most people in this generation are comfortable with sitting around, looking at a screen for hours on end, and/or don’t really have any aspirations, goals, or an idea of what they want out of their life. 

I was one of those people. In my years of highschool I had started to realize who I wanted to be and what was important to me, but I let my thoughts and fears get in the way. 

What will my friends think? I wouldn’t want to disappoint anyone. Is this really what I want? What if it takes too long? Maybe I should just do some research, it might be too much…”

I am here today to tell you this: nothing is going to happen unless you make it. If you honestly, truly, 100% want to live a life where nothing exciting happens, and you want to feel groggy, depressed, and lonely, then stop reading. 

Actually, scratch that. Keep reading. I’m going to tell you what you need to hear

I’m writing this for the people that want a change. People that think “I know I want this, but I don’t think I can get there”. You can. All you need to do, is start with a routine. 

Let’s say your dream is to become a powerlifter. You can’t just expect to walk into the gym and squat 550lbs in one day. You need practice and discipline, which is given to you by routine. 

And this works with anything you want to achieve. Want to start eating vegetarian, or just healthier? Create a routine. Wean yourself off of the unhealthy food instead of going cold turkey (no pun intended). Create a daily schedule and write down all of the things you are going to eat that day, and keep track of it. 

Creating a routine is one of the most important things you can do to give yourself a better life. 

And I understand that some people don’t like the confinement. I totally get it. But there should still be some structure or an idea that you go off of, otherwise, you’re just doing whatever in that moment and you probably won’t get very far. 

You need it to make sure you stay consistent, and you need it so that you can see what works and what doesn’t. Change things up according to what works best for you. 

And it can be fun, too! You get to plan things according to the life you want. If you want to start your days at 5:30 in the morning with a protien-packed breakfast and a hardcore workout, go ahead! If you want to start out your morning slow by sipping a cup of tea, listening to relaxing music and meditating? Go ahead! 

The bottom line is you can have and achieve whatever life you want. Why waste that just sitting around? Why waste that time being unhappy? Chase the life you want. Make it happen. If I can do it, so can you.
